Assessment in Math and Science: What's the Point Workshop #2 - What’d I Get? (Scoring Tools)

CLIP DESCRIPTION
A high school teacher describes an activity where students receive bags of M&M's and make predictions about the number of each color in one bag, a group of bags, etc. They consider how the data changes as the sample size increases. The teacher provides an assessment list called a "Did I?" sheet and makes his expectations clear by giving his assessment rubric to students. Also there is some discussion of a bilingual classroom where students share the same experience but discuss it in groups using different languages.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Well-designed performance tasks give teachers the information necessary to evaluate the depth of students' understanding — but how can teachers determine quality work? This workshop demonstrates how teachers can construct assessment tools for benchmarks of student understanding.
